Questions remain after Winter Park teenager's death

No signs of injury on 15-year-old's body, police say

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Five days after an incident that led to 15-year-old Roger Trindade’s death, authorities have not made any arrests and have no suspects, the police department said Thursday.

Police said they have identified all the people involved and are still seeking answers about what happened Saturday night on Park Avenue.

“We know that answers to the many questions cannot come soon enough for those seeking them,” the police department said in a statement.

The Orange County Medical Examiner's Office completed an autopsy report on Trindade on Wednesday, but the results are pending further testing and could take several weeks.

Authorities need the cause of death before they can decide what criminal charges are appropriate.

Winter Park police also stressed a time crunch when juveniles are involved.

In juvenile criminal cases, “there is a very short window between the arrest and the prosecution.  Law enforcement must be prepared to go to trial within 21 days of the arrest,” according to the release.

Police and fire rescue were called to the scene at 9:48 p.m. Saturday and arrived in two minutes, police said.

Winter Park police Chief Michael Deal said Trindade was found unconscious in Central Park near the intersection of Park Avenue and Morse Boulevard.

There were no physical signs of injury on Trindade or evidence suggesting that he was hit, the news release said.

The police department is receiving help investigating the case from the Joint Homicide Investigation Team, the medical examiner and the State Attorney’s Office.
