Rapper J. Cole was extorted by a fan who tweeted a photo of a girl with a gun to her head.
The Twitter user, identified as That Aint My Kid, told the North Carolina rapper that he would kill the girl if he didn't re-tweet his post.
"Retweet me and I'll buy Born Sinner," That Aint My Kid said in the tweet. "Don't retweet me and I'll kill my lil sister."
J. Cole retweeted the photo almost immediately.
Born Sinner is a new album by J. Cole that was released Tuesday, the same day as the shocking tweet.
Investigators said the Twitter handle is registered to a user in Saudi Arabia.
Police say they have no idea if the gun was real.
