ORLANDO, Fla. – The state released potential new evidence in the case against George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watchman who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, that shows Zimmerman had previously applied to be a police officer out-of-state but was rejected.

According to the evidence filed on Tuesday, Zimmerman had applied to be a police officer in Prince William County in the Washington-metropolitan and was rejected. The state says Prince William County is in Maryland but the county doesn't appear to exist in the state, however, there is a Prince William County in Virginia.
It's not clear when Zimmerman's application was filed and when the rejection letter was sent.

The state also filed to use records from a Longwood gym Zimmerman trained at, called Kokopelli's Gym. According to the gym's website, it offers both fight training and personal fitness training. The state's filing says only Zimmerman "trained" there, but does not specify the nature of that training."
The new release comes a day after an appeals court ruled that the Martin family attorney, Benjamin Crump, can be deposed. Zimmerman trial judge Debra S. Nelson had previously rejected Zimmerman attorney Mark O'Mara's request to depose Crump twice.
Jury selection begins in Zimmerman's second-degree murder trial on Monday. Zimmerman is pleading not guilty to the second-degree murder charge, claiming self-defense.
Martin was shot and killed in Sanford on February 26, 2012. Zimmerman's lack of arrest sparked national outcry.
