Red flags fly at Volusia County beaches

Swimmers urged to be near lifeguards

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Due to strong winds and strong rip currents, red flags were flying Saturday at Volusia County beaches.

Officials said three water rescues were made, including rescuing two juveniles, which took about 15 minutes. Both victims were treated for minor exhaustion.

The beach was closed to vehicles in the morning, but was opened around 1 p.m.

Officials said they expect to have some beaches closed Sunday due to winds and swells as well.

Beachgoers are urged to be near a lifeguard should they go in the water.
