Retired deputy carjacked, dragged in Volusia, police say

2 teens arrested after crash

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Two teens face charges after a retired Volusia County deputy was carjacked and dragged, according to police.

Ormond Beach police say Richard Conway, 67, left his car running with the door open Wednesday night while he went to look at a dumpster to get rid of grease off South Atlantic Avenue.

Police say a dark-colored SUV then pulled up next to Conway and a teen jumped out and hopped into the driver's seat of Conway's car.

Conway, a former Volusia County deputy, tried to grab the teen, but he hit the gas and dragged Conway several feet before getting away, police said.

According to the News-Journal, two teens were later arrested after the victim's car crashed into an unmarked deputy cruiser. Their names have not been released.
