Shooting threat reportedly posted on Facebook, officials say

DeLAND, Fla. – Volusia County deputies are investigating a shooting threat to DeLand High School on Wednesday, which was reportedly posted on social media.

According to a statement from VCSO and the school district, two students alerted school administration on Tuesday that they had overheard about a shooting threat at the school for Thursday.

The threat was posted on Facebook, according to the student who reported the threat, but has since been taken down. Deputies said they haven't come across anyone who heard a student talk about the threat firsthand.

"It has just been students talking about rumors and what they've overheard from others, with no actual corroboration or substantiation of any actual threat," the statement reads.

As a result of the threat, there will be increased law enforcement presence on campus Wednesday and Thursday as a precaution, according to deputies.

The Sheriff's Office and the school are proactively addressing the rumors with information to students and parents and are continuing to investigate and conduct interviews, the statement reads.
