Sanford police help homeless stay warm

Police body cameras capture them giving blankets to homeless

SANFORD, Fla. – Two big donations are helping Sanford police officers keep residents warm during the recent bout of cold weather.

The Islamic Society of Central Florida and Nation Law Firm donated about 180 warm hats and jackets for officers to give out while they're on patrol.

"We're just looking for anyone who might need one, and we're happy to give it to them," said Officer Sanjuanita Justiniano of the Sanford Police Department.

She says body cam video from one of Sanford's officers shows how gracious some of the residents are.

"The other day, we had a gentleman on the way to a bus stop to get to work, and he didn't have a cap on," she said. "We thought he could use one, and he was happy to get it."

If someone you know is in need of warm clothing you can contact the Sanford Police Department at 407-688-5070.
