SeaWorld veterinarians have successfully completed the park's first Cesarean section on a shark.
Park officials announced Tuesday that the emergency C-section was performed last month on a whitetip reef shark at Discovery Cove, SeaWorld's sister park in Orlando.
The park's animal team noticed a complication with the shark's pregnancy six months into gestation and determined the procedure was necessary.
The shark gave birth to four healthy pups. Each baby weighed less than three pounds and measured about two feet in length.
The Discovery Cove animal team and vets are continuing to monitor the sharks. They are reportedly doing well and eating and behaving normally. These sharks aren't currently on display at Discovery Cove, but guests can see other whitetip reef sharks.
