The family of a security guard who was shot and killed during a confrontation Friday night held a memorial in front of the club where he was killed.
Winter Garden police said they responded to the Las Princesas nightclub in reference to a shooting, late Friday night.
Police said that two armed security guards had been involved in a verbal confrontation, when one of the security guards shot the other.
The investigation determined that the two security guards did not work for the same company and became involved in a fight, police said.
Police said it was unknown what they were fighting about, but according to witnesses, one of the guards, Miguel Angel Santos-Rivera, took off his gun belt and attempted to get into a physical fight with the victim, Edwin Anthony Mercado.
Police said Mercado pulled out his gun and aimed it at Santos-Rivera, but eventually Mercado holstered his gun.
Police said Santos-Rivera took out his handgun and shot Mercado in the chest.
Mercado was transported to Health Central Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said Santos-Rivera was taken to the Winter Garden Police Department and confessed to shooting Mercado.
Santos-Rivera was booked into the Orange County Jail.
The brother of Mercado told Local 6 that Mercado leaves behind a paraplegic 10-year-old son, a wife and three daughters.
"He has a big old heart a big personality. He was my big protector, just a friend," said Michael Mercado.
