Semi tractor rear-ends Orlando police car, hits 2nd vehicle head-on

Driver of semi tractor taken to hospital for evaluation

ORLANDO, Fla. – A semi tractor rear-ended an Orlando police car before striking another vehicle head-on, prompting a road closure and sending the semi driver to the hospital.

The wrecks happened around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Orange Blossom Trail and Amelia Street.

According to police, an OPD officer patrolling the area in his marked vehicle was struck on OBT just north of Amelia.  Police said the same truck then hit another car head-on.

Officers were able to stop the semi just south of Colonial Drive.

The driver of the semi was taken to a hospital for evaluation.  All others involved in the crash suffered minor injuries, police said.

OBT was closed from Ameila Street to Colonial Drive while police investigated the crash.

No other details have been released.
