Seminole County teacher faces firing over inappropriate sculpture
Fate of Lyman High School math teacher weighed at district meeting
A Seminole County teacher could be fired on Tuesday night after the school district says she intentionally showed students a wooden object in class that represented male genitals.
The board will vote on Tuesday on if Lyman High School math teacher Jeannie Michaud will be fired after a student said she showed a wooden sculpture resembling a penis in class. She's also accused of embarrassing students and making inappropriate comments throughout the year, according to officials.
Local 6 has learned Michaud has been punished in the past for at least a dozen complaints through her 31-year history as a teacher. After one incident, she lost her teaching certificate for a year and has also been fined.
The superintendent has recommended she be fired. Michaud has been suspended without pay since Oct. 23.
Parents who support Michaud are expected to be at the meeting to argue her firing.
