Seminole County teachers win $1 million lotto

Bentley Elementary School teachers, staff, friends hit 5 numbers to cash in

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – The weekly routine purchase of tickets for the Florida Powerball turned into a million-dollar Wednesday for local teachers in Seminole County

Teachers and employees of Bentley Elementary school in Sanford rang in the new year in style, hitting the $1 million Match 5 prize Wednesday night.

Sources in the school district confirm 10 teachers, staff and their friends play the lotto every week and won on Wednesday.

According to the Powerball website, there were two tickets that won Wednesday's 1 million match prize and were from Florida and New York.

A source who said the winners do not want to come forward yet tells ClickOrlando.com, "They are all working today, but don't want to talk."

Word of the lotto win started circulating in the school district this morning one source at another Seminole school saying it has been the talk of the day.

According to the Florida lottery, the winning ticket was sold in Lake Mary.

The Jan. 8 jackpot was at its guaranteed $70 million and will be rolling to $80 million for the next drawing, according to the website. The winning numbers: white balls: 10 28 39 47 58, Powerball: 22.

There were no tickets that added the Power Play to win $2 million. According to the Lottery website, "there were 385,637 tickets that won nearly $4.6 million in cash prizes."
