Sexual assault investigated in DeLand
Deputies say they have a suspect, no charges filed yet
A suspect has been identified in a sexual assault that occurred Sunday night in DeLand.
A 31-year-old woman reported being dragged into the woods by a stranger and sexually assaulted as she was walking home from a friend's house at about 9 p.m., Volusia County Sheriff's deputies said.
The victim said the man approached her and briefly engaged in conversation before assaulting her in the woods off of State Road 11 near Wade Street and Rosewood Avenue. The man punched her in the face several times before she was able to escape and flag down a passing motorist who drove her home, a sheriff's office report said.
When responding deputies canvassed the area, they found a man who fit the description given by the victim. The suspect was sweaty, his knees were dirty and his pants zipper was down, deputies said.
No charges have been filed in the sexual assault, and deputies are continuing their investigation.
