Lt. Debra Clayton's son receives stuffed bear made from his mother's uniform

Blue Line Bears organization nonprofit helps children of fallen officers

ORLANDO, Fla. – Johnny Brinson, the son of fallen officer Lt. Debra Clayton, received a special gift Monday morning at the Orlando Police Department.

Megan O'Grady, 14, who is the daughter of a police officer, started the nonprofit organization Blue Line Bears to help children of fallen law enforcement officers cope with the loss of a parent.  Megan works with police departments who have lost an officer to learn more about the person they lost, and obtain a shirt from the agency to make a personalized bear for the officer's children.

Megan heard about Clayton's death on Jan. 9 and wanted to do something for her family. She met Brinson and members of Clayton's squad on Monday morning to deliver a personalized bear.

The bear, made of Clayton's old uniform, has her Orlando police badge on the right arm. A personalized badge with Clayton's name, her badge number and a blue line is sewn on the front.

"Out of all the gifts I've gotten, this is one of the best I've received," Brinson said. "I always hugged her in her uniform, even before she went to work and when she was on duty. We were that close, we talked every day, every hour. Seeing this patch, feeling it again, I thought I'd never be able to feel it. It's amazing."

Megan said she hopes the bear will become a last keepsake to keep Clayton's memory alive. Before each bear is given to the family, it is given a St. Michael medal and blessed by a priest.

The Orlando Police Department was not Megan's only stop on Monday. She will also take bears to the families of Norm Lewis and Ricky Anderson.

We will be delivering bears for Lt. Clayton's family on Monday, February 20th at 10:00 AM to the Orlando Police...
