Shark bites tourist in Ormond Beach

Woman recovering from shark bite

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Volusia County Beach Patrol officials confirm that a woman visiting Ormond Beach was bitten by a shark Saturday.

The 45-year-old woman from the Netherlands was in about two to three feet of water when officials said the bite happened.

Officials said the woman suffered a six-inch laceration on her foot and was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injury.

She was taken to Halifax Medical Center and was in stable condition.

Cliff Kirby witnessed the emergency response to the bite from his condo balcony.

"[Sharks] are here so we got to share our environment. I don't want to share that close though," Kirby said.

Officials have been flying rip current flags along Volusia County beaches and have seen a number of shark bites off the coast this year.
