'Sharknado' takes bite out of sign in Cocoa Beach

Shark statue part of iconic surf shop sign

COCOA BEACH, Fla. – After powerful storms ripped through Central Florida early Sunday, everyone may need a good laugh. How about "Sharknado" taking a bite out of a sign?

The iconic Beach Wave surf shop shark sign at the intersection of state roads 520 and A1A in Cocoa Beach was damaged after wind gusts managed to topple the sign.

The shark statue has always been part of the sign, with its half-bitten surfboard placed in the mouth of the shark. After the damage, it appears that the shark destroyed the sign, looking like a scene from "Sharknado."

The Brevard Times reports that  Florida Power & Light crews turned off the power to the sign due to exposed bare wires. Cocoa Beach Fire Department crews made sure there were no other hazards from the sign.
