Sheriff's Office kicks off annual 'Gas for Guns' event

Trade in unwanted guns for $50 gas card

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is partnering with Crimeline to host a “Gas for Guns” program Thursday that encourages citizens to bring in unwanted guns, which reduces the chance of guns falling into the wrong hands.

“Gas for Guns” was designed to encourage citizens to trade in their guns for $50 gas cards. The gas cards will be purchased with proceeds from the forfeiture fund, money seized by the Sheriff's Office as a result of being connected with a commission of a felony crime.

“The goal is to encourage citizens to turn in unwanted firearms to remove them from our community,” Sheriff Bob Hansell said.

The event is completely anonymous with no questions asked. All firearms should be in a plastic bag, unloaded and safely secured in the trunk of your car.

This is the ninth year the Osceola County Sheriff's Office has participated in “Gas for Guns.” In previous years, the Sheriff's Office collected nearly 900 weapons.

The Sheriff's Office will pick up guns from anyone who can’t drop them off at Osceola Heritage Park. Residents can call 407-348-1110 to make pickup arrangements.

The “Gas for Guns” event will take place at Osceola Heritage Park located at 1875 Silver Spur Lane in Kissimmee from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
