ORLANDO, Fla. -

A woman shot a man in the abdomen Monday morning while he was undergoing dialysis in a facility near downtown Orlando, police said.

Shemira R. Hargrove, 32, was arrested on charges of attempted murder (domestic violence) in the shooting, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the Florida Dialysis Center of Orlando at 1711 W. 35th Street.

"I heard a gunshot, and I got as far away from there as I could," said Ramon Pabol, who was waiting for his dialysis appointment in the lobby. "I had enough shooting in Vietnam. I'm not going to come in and get killed."

Pabol was one of several people either undergoing or waiting for treatment when the shooting happened.

"I just saw the lady when she ran out, but I heard screaming and crying," he said.

"I love him," said Hargrove as she left Orlando police headquarters to an awaiting police car. "I apologize. I apologize."

Hargrove was transported to the Orange County Jail.

Police haven't identified the victim, who was said to be alert when he was taken to a local hospital in an ambulance. A police spokesman said he underwent surgery Monday afternoon.

Dialysis center spokeswoman Nancy Schwalb said the staff was to be commended for their quick work.

"They had backup nurses and other attendees that immediately jumped right in and replaced people that were confronted by the situation," she said, noting the staff had been trained to respond to crisis situations.

The dialysis center remained open throughout the incident and continued to accept patients throughout the day.
