Shooting suspect arrested for using fake ID at Sanford airport, cops say

Christopher Campbell tried to board plane to Texas

SANFORD, Fla. – An Orlando man arrested in a shooting from earlier this month is back behind bars after trying to use a fake ID to get on a plane. Officers say he also tried to run away from the cops.

Christopher Campbell, 30, faced a judge Thursday afternoon. It was a day after officers accused him of using a fake ID to board a plane at Orlando Sanford International Airport.

Airport police say he had a one-way ticket to McAllen, Texas, which is a city on the U.S. and Mexico border. Officers say a checkpoint supervisor stopped him because the U.S. Virgin Islands driver's license he had was fake. The report states his name was Marlon Bryant on the ID.

Officers say they realized the license was fake because the hologram appeared to be different. Campbell told police he lived in Florida and goes to school here, then returns to St. Thomas.

Police detained Campbell. Officers say Campbell tried to run away from officers, according the report saying he's a self-conscious person and didn't want to be seen with police.

Police say Campbell ran all the way to the Alamo Car Rental before he was caught and put in handcuffs. Officers say he then tried to run again while in custody.

Officers tried to get his real name, but according the report Campbell told them, "My name is ion the license." Officers also found a laptop, two cellphones, and $5,000 cash on him.

Campbell was sent to jail. Police didn't know who he was until they fingerprinted him and got his real identity. Police ran his name and found out he had several warrants out for his arrest.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office says he is a suspect in a shooting from earlier this month. Deputies say he shot at two women who were in a car at a Jamaican club. One of the victims was hit in the head and the other was seven months pregnant.

Airport police say Orange County detectives want to search the electronics to see if there is anything there that could help their case. The sheriff's office says the investigation is ongoing.

Campbell told police he was going to Texas to visit the mother of one of his children for the long holiday weekend. He said the money was to pay bills when he got there.

Campbell is charged with attempting to escape custody, giving a false name, and resisting an officer. The judge granted him a $6,000 bond.
