Shooting victim suspected in Tavares home invasion, police say

Police investigating after Pine Hills victim identified as suspect in other case

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – News 6 has learned that Brandon Bascom, who was shot and killed in Pine Hills on Saturday, was also a suspect in a home invasion that happened in Tavares, Cpl. Sarah Coursey, with the Tavares Police Department, said.

Coursey said the "be on the look out" the department issued matched Bascom's vehicle. She said they are continuing to investigate the home invasion and would be able to provide more details Monday.

Orange County deputies said Bascom was shot while sitting inside his car at the Kwik Stop off Powers Drive. It happened around 2:30 p.m. They said he tried to drive in reverse to avoid getting shot and ended up crashing into a woman who was putting groceries in her car. She had to be taken to the hospital for a leg injury, but is expected to be OK.

The gunman is still at large.

This is one of four shootings reported in Pine Hills this weekend. Deputies said there also was a stabbing.
