Sources: Magic could announce new GM Wednesday

Sources: Rob Hennigan leading candidate as next Magic GM

ORLANDO, Fla. – Local 6 Sports Director David Pingalore has learned that a leading candidate has emerged in the Orlando Magic's search for a new general manager, and that an announcement could be made as soon as Wednesday.

According to sources, Rob Hennigan, 30, is the leading candidate for the Magic's GM position.

Hennigan is currently the assistant general manager and is in charge of player personnel for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

According to Pingalore's sources, the hiring of Hennigan is nearing but terms of the deal have yet to be finalized.

"It would make complete sense to hire Henningan. He's fresh, young and will bring new ideas to the Magic," an NBA executive told Pingalore.

Hennigan, a native of Worcester, MA was quoted in GoLocalWorcester.com last week that he would like to be a NBA general manager one day.

"I think in a perfect world, I would love to have the chance to manage a team," Hennigan told GoLocalWorcester.com. "But I'm in such a special place here with the Thunder. I really love it here, and just feel so blessed to work with the people I work with. So, it doesn't have to happen right now."

Hennigan would be replacing Otis Smith, who was fired last month.
