Astronauts experiment with fire in space

Small blazes described as 'jellyfish on fire'

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – Astronauts aboard the International Space Station are experimenting with how fuel burns in a weightless environment.

Astronauts are looking at how quickly the fuel burns, the conditions needed for soot to form and how certain mixtures of fuels evaporate before burning.

NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman tweeted out Vine videos of the miniature blazes, saying they looked like "jellyfish on fire."

NASA says the experiment could lead to the development of safer spacecraft and increased fuel efficiency on Earth.
