SpaceX, NASA plan emergency test
Space Coast prepares for launch tests
A private space company announced it will test how it can save astronauts' lives if there is ever a problem during a future launch.
NASA and SpaceX plan on running the test next year on the Space Coast during a test flight of its Falcon 9 rocket.
About 73 seconds into the launch, a capsule, equipped with 270 special sensors and parachutes, will detach and fall into the ocean. Once the capsule is recovered, it'll be brought back to Port Canaveral so researchers can study the data.
SpaceX wants to put astronauts in that capsule as soon as 2015.
