MELBOURNE, Fla. – A man who barricaded himself inside a Melbourne house after deputies were called to a domestic disturbance has surrendered.
The standoff took place Thursday at a home near the intersection of Thomas Barbour Drive and Love Ridge Drive.

Melbourne Police Sgt. Sheridan Shelley said one resident later identified as Douglas Alan Van-Buren, 52, battered another resident, then threatened him with a rifle.
The victim left the home and called police. They arrived and tried to talk with Van-Buren, who refused, closed windows around the home and barricaded himself inside.
Melbourne Police dispatched their SWAT team, and Brevard County Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene to assist. They tried to negotiate with Van-Buren, breaking windows to try to speak with him. After little communication, they obtained an arrest warrant.
"Officers were in the process of making entry into the home when the suspect was taken into custody," Shelley said.
Van-Buren was arrested at 1:50 p.m. and charged with aggravated assault and battery. Shelley said there was no recent history of police calls at the home.
The other person involved in the dispute was able to safely exit the home before the standoff began.
Deputies said the incident ended peacefully after a search warrant was obtained and law enforcement officials entered the home.
