ORLANDO, Fla. -

Florida's transportation department is launching a SunRail safety campaign following multiple crashes during its first month of service.

FDOT tells Local 6 it will run digital warnings at billboards near eight SunRail crossings. Some billboards send a message through witty "facts," such as: "A 360 ton train can't swerve." However, other messages are more direct, including: "Do not stop on the tracks."

FDOT also plans to run 15-second radio ads warning drivers to obey railroad crossing signs. The ads will run on 13 different radio stations before traffic reports.

Transportation leaders say they already had a train safety campaign planned for train safety awareness week. However, the billboards and radio ads were added due to recent SunRail train collisions.
