State Road A1A reopens in Indialantic hours after gas leak

Fire rescue says FPL crews ruptured gas main while working

INDIALANTIC, Fla. – Officials have reopened State Road A1A in Indialantic on Tuesday afternoon hours after a gas leak was reported.

According to Brevard County Fire-Rescue said the leak was reported about 11:50 a.m. in the 900 block of State Road A1A, about half a mile north of the highway's intersection at Fifth Avenue.

Lt. Jeff Taylor said Florida Power & Light crews working installing a new power pole ruptured a 4-inch gas main, forcing closure of the road in both directions. City Gas crews were on scene to repair the leak.

Two nearby businesses were evacuated and later reopened just before 5 p.m., Taylor said.
