Stetson basketball player arrested for shooting at car

3 players off team after incident with pellet gun

ORANGE CITY, Fla. – A Stetson University basketball player bonded out jail Friday after he was arrested for shooting a pellet gun at a car.

Volusia County sheriff's investigators said Grant Lozoya, 21, was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol troopers after the driver of a silver Audi called 911 to report the shooting early Friday.

The driver told Seminole County dispatchers someone in a dark-colored Mercedes was shooting at him somewhere in Lake Mary.

Seminole County issued a "be on the lookout" alert for the car.

Volusia County deputies said they spotted the Mercedes exiting Interstate 4 at Saxon Boulevard at 1 a.m. Friday and pulled the car over without incident.

FHP investigators arrived and found Lozoya, a guard with the Stetson University basketball team, in the passenger seat.

They said Angel Rivera, 23, a guard with the Stetson basketball team, was behind the wheel, while Will Hollmann, 20, a forward center with the Hatters, was in the back seat.

Investigators determined Lozoya fired the shots at the other car and arrested him. He was charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

All three claimed the shots were fired because they thought the driver in the other car was driving recklessly.

Lozoya bonded out of jail Friday morning.

Stetson University's athletic department told News 6 it is aware of the incident.

"They have been indefinitely suspended from all athletic activities pending the outcome of the Student Judicial Process," Associate Athletic Director Ricky Hazel said.

The other driver was not injured.
