Store clerk shot during robbery in Orange County

Victims hide in cooler after shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said a store clerk was shot several times Sunday night during an armed robbery.

The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. at the Neighborhood Food Mart in the 9400 block of Second Avenue near Orange Avenue.

According to a worker, four masked men entered the store and pointed a gun at a clerk.

"They asked the guy for the phone, and he didn't know what to do," the worker said. "That's when they fired the first shot into the ceiling."

A third worker, who was taking the trash out, entered the store, and the culprits opened fire on him, the coworker said. The worker who took out the trash was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital for treatment. He's expected to be OK.

The assailants stole cellphones and cash and ran away, the worker said.

The victims locked themselves in a cooler until help arrived, the worker said.

"If you can shoot somebody just for the money, I don't know how you can describe that person," the worker said.
