ORLANDO, Fla. – The last SunRail train is now running 15 minutes later in an effort to pick up more riders at the Florida Hospital and Orlando Health campuses.
"Many nights I'm running to catch it just in time, so this will be a big help," said Teresa Cunningham, a nurse anesthetist at Orlando Health.
The last northbound train is now running 15 minutes later, stopping at Orlando Health at 7:37 p.m. and pulling into the Florida Hospital stop at 7:49 p.m.
The two stops were expected to be busy, but are among SunRail's poorest performers.
More than 90,000 people boarded SunRail in July, but only 2,619 go on at the Orlando Health stop, and just over 4,300 at Florida Hospital, compared to the 19,691 who boarded at Winter Park.
"There have been some nights where its been a rush to get down here. There was one night where I did miss it and I didn't get on until the 9:30 train," said Kimberly McDaniel, a nurse at Florida Hospital.
She's one of the 500 people who work the daily 12-hour shift there.
McDaniel said she thinks more nurses will ride SunRail now that they have an extra 15 minutes to get to the stop.
"When we're giving shift reports, sometimes we don't always get out at 7:30 to make the train, so pushing the times back will help," she said.
