Surveillance video captures attempted smash and grab in Avalon Park

AVALON PARK, Fla. – An attempted smash and grab has one business owner looking to install more security cameras.

Surveillance video from Avalon Park Jewelers shows someone trying to break in Sunday morning.

The video shows a person walk up to the jewelry store, look inside and then, moments later, the person shatters a window pane.

For unknown reasons, the person doesn't stick around to get what they were after.

"We have no idea what deterred them. We have no idea why they didn't go through with it. They were less than ten inches from unlocking the door, but something stopped them, and we're very grateful that it did," said store owner Tiffany Bayley.

Bayley has been at the Avalon Park location since 2011.

In that time, she's been hit about five times.

"It's very, very unfair to do over and over and over. It's very victimizing, and what I don't understand is, why," said Bayley.

Bayley says she has asked for more law enforcement presence, but feels her requests are going unanswered.

She believes that if more patrols were in the area, she wouldn't have to deal with headaches like Sundays.

"Who wants to spend $850 on broken glass? And how long is it going to take me to make up $850," said Bayley.

Despite a broken window and hundreds of dollars spent, Bayley is still holding onto her optimism.

"You just continue doing what you're doing and really hoping for the best and stay vigilant and you know, make sure that the alarm is always set. Making sure that the lights always stay on," said Bayley.

News 6 asked Orange County Sheriff's Office about Bayley's concerns.

We're told they'll look into it with their patrol and investigative teams when they reopen Tuesday morning.
