OVIEDO, Fla. - Police are currently asking for the public's help in finding the suspect wanted in a possible attempted abduction of a 7-year-old girl.
At 3 p.m. Friday, the 7-year-old girl and her older brother told Oviedo police they were riding their bikes home from Lawton Elementary School when a man stopped them and asked the girl if she would put her bike in the trunk of his car, as he placed his hand on the girl's handlebars.
The man was parked in the vacant lot on the northwest corner of N. Lake Jessup Avenue and King Street with his trunk open, police said.
The two kids rode off to their home nearby. When they arrived home, police said they told an adult at the home what had happened, and he took one the bikes and headed toward the vacant lot.
As he rode toward the lot, police said he saw the man's vehicle headed toward him. He told the officers the man must have known he was headed toward him because he turned his vehicle around and headed in the opposite direction.
Police said the man was last seen headed north on Lake Jessup Avenue. Police searched the area, but were unable to find the suspect.
The adult from the home was able to provide detectives with a description of the suspect and his vehicle. The suspect was described as a white man in his late 50s or early 60s with white hair, a mustache and a goatee. He was driving a silver or gray Saturn sedan, believed to be an Aura (photo of similar vehicle, pictured right).
Those with any information as to the identity of the suspect are asked to call Det. Rogers at 407-971-5700, or call CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
