Suspect's selfie leads to arrest

Police: Adam Howe took picture moments before burglary

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Chula Vista police can thank a burglary suspect for helping them track him down through a selfie he took moments before the crime.

Officers say 26-year-old Adam Howe broke into Hilltop Tabernacle Church and stole $10,000, some purses and a laptop.

When police arrived at the church, they found a cell phone left behind by Howe. While searching through its files, officers found several selfies, including one Howe had allegedly taken moments before breaking into the church.

"We were able to identify a picture of one of the suspects involved in the burglary," Capt. Lon Turner told KFMB-TV.

Officers also noticed Howe took the photo at nearby Harborside Park. Shortly after, police found Howe at the park with several of the stolen items.

"It is unusual," Turner told KFMB. "I would say this though -- it's happening more frequently."
