SWAT team finds man hiding in attic

Deputies serve felony warrant at Orange County condo

ORLANDO, Fla. – A SWAT team found a man wanted in the theft of $30,000 in stolen electronic equipment hiding inside the attic of an Orange County condominium.

Joseph Diaz Cotto, 29, was taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Chera Court Condominium Complex in Orlando, near Bumby and Hawthorne avenues.

Orange County sheriff's deputies were serving a felony warrant for Cotto in connection with the theft of stolen Bose equipment out of Vero Beach.

Two arrests were made earlier in the day in connection with Cotto, but authorities have not released any details.

Local 6 reporter Mike DeForest, who was near the scene, heard officials announce over a bullhorn, "We know you're in there.  Come out with your hands up."  Cotto was then found hiding hours later.

Orange County sheriff's deputies urged residents in the area to remain inside their homes while the incident was taking place.

Several nearby roads, including Bumby Avenue, were also closed.

The condos are part of a 42-unit complex.
