Teacher, minister had inappropriate relationship with student, Kissimmee police say
Report states Mavericks High School teacher sent pictures to minor
A Kissimmee high school teacher and church minister has been arrested after police say he was having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Wayne Brown, 34, a teacher at Mavericks High School and church minister, has been charged with distribution of obscene material to a minor after Brown's wife told another school employee that Brown had received explicit photos from a 16-year-old student.
Police found seven explicit photos on Brown's phone and police said there could be more pictures on it because they're still searching through it.
Brown denied receiving the pictures when questioned by police. Detectives interviewed the victim who said over the course of the last year her relationship with Brown became more intimate.
She told detectives she had sent Brown explicit photos of herself and she had received the same from Brown, according to the report.
The relationship was not physical, the student told police, but the 16-year-old victim told investigators Brown said, "I love you," and, "I'm in love with you."
Local 6 was the first to tell some of the students at the school what happened.
"I'm shocked," said Joshua Rivera. "That doesn't sound like Mr. Brown at all. Who does stuff like that with a student?"
Brianna Jimmo had Brown as a teacher last year.
"It's disgusting and disturbing," said Jimmo. "It's surprising because its him. He has a nice type of personality."
Police said Brown is also a minister at "The Living Word Church" in Kissimmee.
So far, no one at Mavericks' High School is commenting on the incident.
Brown turned himself in at the Kissimmee Police Department and will be transported to the Osceola County Jail where he will be held on $5,000 bond.
Detectives believe that Brown has victimized others as he has contact with children through the school and his church. Victims should contact KPD or CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS.
