Teen arrested in shooting of Jimmy John's delivery driver

Orlando police say Leroy Brown III faces charges of attempted robbery with firearm

ORLANDO, Fla. – A 17-year-old was arrested Wednesday in the shooting of a Jimmy John's delivery driver during a robbery attempt.

Leroy Brown III was arrested on charges of attempted robbery with a firearm and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm in the shooting, which occurred Monday afternoon at the City West apartments on Kirkman Road near Valencia College's west campus in Orlando.

Police said the 35-year-old driver had just made a delivery when he was waved down by two males, one of whom pointed a gun at him.

The man sped off in his car, but one of the culprits, later identified as Brown, fired a shot, shattering a car window and striking the driver in the chin, police said. The driver suffered a non-life-threatening injury, police said.

The duo was later spotted at a nearby Walmart, and surveillance photos released by the media prompted a Crimeline tip that led to the arrest of Brown, who was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

The second person has been identified by police, but no other information is being released because of the ongoing investigation.
