FHP: Teen hit; Car drives through backyard of house in Meadow Woods subdivision

ORLANDO, Fla. – The woman who lost control of her car and struck a 15-year-old who was walking home from school is being ticketed for careless driving, according to Florida Highway Patrol Troopers.

The crash happened in the Meadow Woods Subdivision in South Orange County at the corner of Rhode Island Woods Circle and Texas Woods Circle.

Wilnelia Santos-Rodriguez, 27, has been ticketed for careless driving.

Troopers say Santos-Rodriguez was driving down Rhode Island Woods Circle when she lost control, hit the curb and plowed into a 15-year-old, before her Toyota Matrix flipped.

Herbert Mondon was mowing his lawn and witnessed the crash.

He said the teen was sitting in the middle of the rubble with a large gash on his side and a broken arm.

"He was completely in a daze, he didn't know where he was," Mondon said.

Mondon said Santos-Rodriguez climbed out of her car and was screaming about her kids. She then pulled her 8-month-old son and 3-year-old daughter from the flipped car.

Mondon doesn't know why Santos-Rodriguez lost control, but says people drive too fast on the road.

"While people are driving, especially in neighborhoods, they should be going at a slower pace," Mondon said.

According to troopers, Santos-Rodriguez has been ticketed for speeding five times since 2010.Her husband told Local 6 the children are going to be okay.

The teen was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital with serious injuries, but he is in stable condition, according to troopers.
