Teen: Man posing as deputy followed me

15-year-old girl says man asked her suspicious questions

ORANGE CITY, Fla. – A 15-year-old girl says a man dressed like a sheriff's deputy drove up next to her and threatened to follow her home.

Sarah Poe was walking home from University High School when she said a white car, resembling a patrol car with the word "sheriff" on the side, pulled up next to her near the intersection of Sparkman and French Avenues.

"He asked me if I went to the school down the road and I said yes, and he asked me where I live. I said this road," said Poe. "He said, 'Where exactly?' I said, 'I don't have to tell you this.' He's like, 'You kinda do.' I said, 'I kinda don't.' And he's like, 'Well, I'll just follow you home.'"

Poe said when she told the man she was going to call 911, he got back in the car and drove off.

After taking Poe's sworn statement, Volusia County deputies forwarded the report to other deputies and the Orange City Police Department in order for them to increase patrols in the area.
