Thieves break into homes in Ormond Beach

Break-ins happened while homeowners were at work

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Two homes in Ormond Beach were broken into while the homeowners were at work.

"It was definitely an uncomfortable feeling to know that somebody had been in the house, and for how long, we didn't know," John Rucker said.

Rucker said he's been living on John Anderson Drive for 16 years and has never had a problem. But when he got home from work Thursday night, everything was out of place, even his three dogs.

"It was unusual that the thieves managed to corral them and put them inside my laundry room," he said. "I looked around and saw the drawers open, and they obviously had rummaged through the house."

Rucker said they cut through the patio screen and then got inside by crawling through the doggie door.

"Came in through the dog door, did their thing, stayed as long as they stayed. They went back out the dog door and hopped out through the backyard," Rucker said. "They took all the electronics, the iPads, the watches, the chargers."

The same thing happened at another home just minutes down the road the same day. The police report said the thieves pried open the front door, cracked the door frame and stole electronics and a shotgun.

In both cases, deputies said neighbors didn't see or hear anything. Anyone who has information is asked to call the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
