Thieves strike in College Park neighborhood

Multiple vehicle and home burglaries reported in College Park

ORLANDO, Fla. – Judy Bingham, like a lot of residents in College Park, is frustrated with all of the crime lately.

On Thursday, a dozen cars were reportedly broken into, along with a couple of homes.

"My feeling is that it's a group of people. Maybe a gang, I don't know. I don't think it's the same person going house to house and car to car," Bingham said.

News 6 did some digging and found out crime as a whole in College Park is actually down for the year.

According to Orlando police, residential burglaries dropped by 11 percent, vehicle break-ins by 17 percent and stolen vehicles by 52 percent.

With that being said though, there has been an uptick in cases for the month of September. Police couldn't say why that was, but did say they are stepping up patrols in the area and are using a variety of tactics to try and catch the thieves.

"It's been ridiculous as a landscaper and business owner here in College Park. We notice it. We report it. We try to be vigilant just like the mailman or service technician. We're always watching out for each other," Randy Nault said.

Police said those are good tips. They also encourage residents to lock up their cars, remove any valuables and keep their garage doors shut, even if they're at home.
