Tim Tebow to Jaguars rumors reignited

Fans divided among signing QB

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Tim-Tebow-to-the-Jaguars rumors have reignited this week, thanks to several Internet reports.

WJXT-TV reports it appears that's exactly what they are at this point: rumors. The Jaguars have given no credence to picking up one of the most scrutinized players of all time.

Those in support of signing the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and hometown hero say, "Why not?"

The Jaguars are 0-4, have scored a combined five points in two home games and are the laughing stock of the NFL.

Some wonder if the team will be just the second in league history to go 0-16 (2008 Detroit Lions). Others are already comparing them to the worst teams ever.

It appears the team can't get any worse, so some Jaguars fans say they would at least like to see Tebow under center, raising the interest of the team.

Tebowmania, as it's referred to, spiked when the former Florida Gators QB took over for the Denver Broncos during the 2011 season and led them to the playoffs and a first-round victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tebow was later traded to the New York Jets and has since been an afterthought nationally.

Not everyone is in favor of bringing him to Jacksonville. When general manager David Caldwell was hired, he said he did not foresee any circumstance in which the Jags would sign Tebow, even if he were released. Tebow was a member of the Jets at the time and was later released. He signed with the Patriots but was eventually cut before this season.

Fans say Tebow wouldn't fit into a pro-style system the Jaguars are trying to run. Others, however, say the Jaguars aren't productive anyway.

Many sports pundits around the country have said the Jaguars should sign Tebow for the sake of the fans and what they're having to watch.

But the Jaguars don't appear to be budging and are sticking with their plan to rebuild a franchise from the ground up, with first-year head coach Gus Bradley at the helm.

Time will only tell if the rumors are substantiated or if they are just another reason to keep the conversation going.

The Jags' play at St. Louis at 1 p.m. Sunday.

It's unknown where Tebow will be Sunday afternoon.
