Time: Kit Kat is most influential candy bar

Magazine cites 'global following'

ORLANDO, Fla. – Time magazine says one candy bar's "global following" is the reason it is the world's most influential treat.

In a new list that is sure to spur debate, the magazine chose Kit Kat as the world's most influential candy bar. The magazine says Kit Kat's "global following," along with its ability to turn chocolate into a "social snack" were the main reasons behind the decision.

The magazine argued Kit Kat was one of the first candy bars to reach peak popularity in both Europe and the United States. According to the writers, Kit Kat inspired popular candy bars such as Snickers and Butterfinger.

Time decided one of the most recognizable candy bars -- Hershey's Milk Chocolate -- was the second most influential. The writers believe Hershey made milk chocolate "mainstream" and created an "American obsession" with the candy bar.

The rest of the top 13 includes:

  • Toblerone
  • Nestlé's Milk Chocolate
  • Snickers
  • Chicken Dinner
