JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A toddler is in critical condition after a family member accidentally backed over the child with a car around midnight at an apartment complex in the city’s Holliday Hill neighborhood, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.
Police said a family was getting ready to leave the Mathews Crossing Apartments on Century 21 Drive, just south of Atlantic Boulevard, when the family member who was driving momentarily lost track of the 2-year old and backed over the child with the car.

The child was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police have not said whether alcohol played a role in the incident.
Traffic homicide detectives are investigating the incident, officers said.
