ORLANDO, Fla. - Trayvon Martin's shooting death is Florida's top story of 2012.
Newspaper editors picked Martin's death as the state's top story in a poll conducted by The Associated Press.
Florida's voting woes finished second.
The shooting of Martin by an armed neighborhood watch captain in the central Florida city of Sanford raised questions about race, gun control and equal justice under the law.
A 44-day delay in the neighborhood watch captain's arrest led to nationwide protests, and everyone from President Obama to celebrities weighed in on the shooting.
The former neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman, is pleading not guilty to second-degree murder, claiming self-defense. His trial is set for the middle of next year.
Zimmerman also has recently come under fire for allegedly not paying for his security team after the shooting. The security company is suing him for $40,000 in unpaid wages, according to the lawsuit.
