Tree falls onto house after storm in Lake County

Rain, gusty winds in Fruitland Park leaves tree on family's roof

FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. – Mother nature brought rain and gusty winds to Fruitland Park, leaving one family with a tree on the roof of their home.

"It was big shock to when I came home in the driveway," said Jefferey Oliver. "I just came home and the tree was down on my house."

The tree had been uprooted during Thursday's storms landing on the roof of the garage.

That wasn't the only storm damage in the area. Rain and wind caused trees to fall on power lines, leaving people in the area without power for several hours.

The Oliver family was in Tavares for much of the afternoon and told Local 6 they felt lucky no one was home, and the damage wasn't worse on this Fourth of July.

"If one of us was in the garage, if it would have crushed it, I would have been sad if it were to hurt one of us," said Devin Oliver.

"I feel very lucky because if it would have fell a little to the left, it could have taken out the whole house," said Jeffery Oliver.

A crew will be at the home Friday morning to remove the tree and the family can figure out exactly what the real damage is to the exterior of the house.
