WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. -

Testimony began Tuesday in the first of four murder trials connected to a 2012 biker gang shooting in Winter Springs.

David Maloney stands accused of opening fire on the Veterans of Foreign Wars post on Edgemon Avenue, killing three members of the Florida Warlocks Motorcycle Club.

Maloney had been kicked out of the club and formed his own rival gang called the "Phillies" Warlock Motorcycle Club.

The testimony comes after a member of the Florida chapter was arrested over the weekend after Brevard County sheriff's deputies said he shot a Volusia County Warlock club member who had been subpoenaed to testify in court defending Maloney.

Deputies say John Charles Haskell shot Larry Spohn in the right arm. Spohn is a witness to a shooting that involves members of the Brevard County club.

Haskell was arrested, booked in the Brevard County Jail on a charge of attempted first-degree premeditated murder.

In opening statements earlier Tuesday, Maloney's attorney claimed he lived in fear after he was kicked out of the Florida club, having received threats from the rival motorcycle gang.

Statements continued throughout the morning.
