Trooper dives out of way to avoid 'intentional' hit by driver, FHP says

Car swerves across 3 lanes before barely missing trooper

ORMOND BEACH, Fla.A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was directing traffic Tuesday when a vehicle swerved across I-95, sending the trooper diving out of the way to avoid being hit, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

The trooper was assisting a semitruck that broke down near mile marker 268 and stayed to help control traffic when the incident happened, an FHP spokesperson said.

Troopers said a silver 2006 Silver Chrysler 300 cut across three lanes of I-95 from the far lane and the trooper jumped out of the way in the knick of time.

The trooper told officials he thought it was an intentional because he made eye contact with the driver before almost being struck.

The FHP said the Chrysler 300 continued south on I-95, exited onto State Road 40, ran a red light and re-entered I-95.

The trooper was able to get a tag number, which is registered to a person in Fort Lauderdale.

The trooper's arm was injured, but he was not taken to the hospital, the FHP said.

Troopers would like to speak to the driver and ask what happened, FHP spokeswoman Kim Montes said.

The FHP said charges are pending as the investigation continues.
