A loaded firearm was found on Thursday at a security checkpoint at Orlando International Airport, according to Transportation Security Administration agents.
TSA said the .380 pistol was discovered in a purse of a woman who was escorting a passenger to the gate. Airport police were notified and the woman was arrested. The woman's identity has not been released.
People who bring firearms to a checkpoint face a civil penalty from TSA.
Weapons—included guns—are not permitted in carry-on baggage, TSA officials said. Individuals are responsible for the contents of bags they bring to the security checkpoint and TSA’s advice is to look through bags thoroughly before coming to the airport to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items.
TSA has discovered 18 firearms at MCO checkpoints in 2013 alone.
