UCF returns after Fiesta Bowl win

Fans, players react to Knights defeating Baylor for 1st BCS bowl win

PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Knights football team returns to Orlando on Thursday, hours after they defeated No. 6 Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl for their first BCS bowl game win.

Blake Bortles threw for 301 yards and accounted for four touchdowns, Storm Johnson ran for three more scores, and No. 15 Central Florida pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the bowl season by outlasting No. 6 Baylor 52-42 on Wednesday night.

"This is very exciting, this is such a crazy season we came here, we conquered, you know everybody was doubting us in the beginning but we pulled it off in the end," said running back William Stanback.

With Baylor's high powered offense and the Knights being 17-point underdogs, the team showed off in their national debut.

"It's just so surreal right now I'm just so happy for this team and the seniors where we're at right now," said wide receiver J.J. Worton.

Fans greeted and congratulated the Knights as they returned to the campus at around 5:30 p.m.

Head coach George O'Leary said the win in front of the 61,000 spectators was fantastic not only for the team, but for the fans.

"I tell you what, fantastic for everybody associated with UCF players and the fan base. The people came out here and got their money's worth," he said.

Some of the UCF bowl game gear has already sold out. One of the hottest items, a Nike shirt that reads "Good Knight," is listed as out of stock on Nike.com.
