ORLANDO, Fla. - A University of Central Florida student was injured early Friday in an armed home invasion, according to campus police.
The incident occurred near Alafaya Trail at the Knights Circle apartment complex, which is off-campus, UCF-affiliated housing.
According to UCF police, a gunman forced his way into the home around 2 a.m. and robbed the student, who suffered a head injury. Police said the victim was conscious and alert.
The student did not know the gunman, according to UCF police.
Witnesses described the assailant as a 5 feet 11 inch tall black man with dreadlocks. He was wearing baggy gray shorts and a black shirt, and he left the area with a black man with a shaved head in what was described as a red or dark colored sedan similar to a Volkswagen Jetta.
Students, faculty and staff were notified of the incident via the UCF Alert emergency notification system.
"I heard there was a home invasion. I got the alert around 3 o'clock in the morning that somebody broke into someone's house (and had) a gun," said UCF student Cecile Barreto.
"Ultimately, safety is the priority. We wanted students to know that there was somebody with a gun who posed a threat and that we were on the case," said Courtney Gilmartin, UCF police spokeswoman.
The case remains under investigation.
