UCF wide receiver honored after tackling video voyeur suspect on campus

University of Central Florida wide receiver Tristan Payton was honored on Wednesday after he tackled a man accused of taking videos of girls attending a cheerleading camp at the CFE Arena on campus.

Jonathan Hui was charged with lewd and lascivious behavior, burglary, video voyeurism and possession of obscene material in the July incident.

UCF police say the girls were in the female restroom inside of the CFE Arena when they saw a man, later identified as Hui, videotaping the girls using the restroom with a cellphone. The girls reported the incident to their coach, who then saw Hui leaving the female restroom. According to the arrest report, when a janitor asked Hui what he was doing, he took off running and was chased through the arena and out into Memory Mall.

Hui was held down by Payton until police arrived and questioned Hui.

"The defendant was running pretty fast and there were some people chasing him and couldn't catch up. Well of all the people he picked on campus, he picked the wide receiver. One of the fastest guys on the football team for those of you that don't understand football," UCF Police Chief Richard Beary said after Hui's July arrest.

The police chief also gave Payton a job application to become a police officer after he graduates.

Payton was honored for his help, but couldn't make it to Wednesday's ceremony.
